What is The House of Ruach?

The House of Ruach is a tax-exempt, public charity,
specifically, a nonprofit, interfaith service organization.
 [Tax I.D. Number 26-4328617]

We are committed to creating a world in which God
would choose to live.  We do this through the uniquely
personal ministries of volunteers, who perform acts of
charitable giving and who create opportunities for service,
within their sphere of influence.

We are staffed by volunteers, consequently, the services that we are able to offer vary depending upon the skills and availability of our volunteers.  For example, if we have a volunteer who is a qualified drug counselor, then we are able to offer drug counseling.
Some offer counseling services, others feed the homeless, and many visit shut-ins and the terminally ill.

We maintain consulting rooms for psychotherapy, pastoral counseling, and consultations. All services are offered on a sliding-scale, based on income.

We do NOT seek to convert.  We offer services to persons wherever they may be in their religious or spiritual life, and that includes the complete absence of religion or spirituality.  As an interfaith organization, we do NOT believe that there is one right religion---all are valuable and respected.  Our counselors and therapists do NOT bring religion into the counseling relationship, unless you specifically seek religious pastoral counseling or religious spiritual renewal--- iin which case, it would be YOUR chosen religion that would be the vehicle for renewal.

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is also known as mental health counseling or therapy.  The word therapy is reserved for
the specialized techniques
that are used to help people with complicated reactions
or conditions.

 In California,
it can be conducted by psychiatrists, psychologists, marriage & family therapists (MFTs), or Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW).

By definition, one must be licensed by the State to
conduct therapy.

   *****

When you live life and love others from your center,
you can do no harm
to others or to yourself.
What is an Interfaith Minister?

 A licensed, ordained
Interfaith Minister is trained
to work with all religions.

They respect all faiths,
absence of faith, and
Wisdom Paths, whether traditional, alternative,
religious, or spiritual.

        They conduct rituals of
all kinds, including legal weddings, affirmations, funerals, and memorial services.

What is Pastoral Counseling?

Pastoral Counseling is
the combination of secular psychology and theology.

Pastoral Counselors
can help remedy personal problems, intervene with complicated psychological malfunctioning, and resolve spiritual/religious issues.

The Pastoral Counselor is
an expert in both psychology and theology, and most likely,
is ordained clergy or a chaplain.

What is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual Direction focuses on issues of spirituality.

Spiritual Directors can help remedy problems of faith,
or assist with developing faith, by focusing on spirituality and spiritual practices in an effort
to help clients become aware
of the presence of God in their lives, to develop their spirituality or ritual practices, and to address the spiritual restless-ness of the soul.

They do NOT have to be clergy; they are often trained laypersons.
